Jeri McCumbee appointed to SC Education Oversight Committee

Columbia, SC- Jeri McCumbee, MEDcare Director of Operations for Myrtle Beach and Tennessee, has been appointed to serve as a member of the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee (EOC) by Senator Greg Hembree, Chairman of the Senate Education Committee. McCumbee has been appointed as Sen. Hembee’s business appointee, filling the seat most recently held by current Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver.

"I was honored to be appointed to the Education Oversight Committee by Senator Greg Hembree. Education in South Carolina is important, and I welcome the opportunity to work with this committee and improve on the standards that were established in prior years," said McCumbee.

McCumbee purchased Access Medical Center in 2003 with a physician and managed the company through the 2008 economic crises and the COVID pandemic. In 2020, McCumbee sold the company to the Urgent Care Group which has 56 centers, five brands and is expanding.

In addition to her business accomplishments, McCumbee is extensively involved in her community. She is a member of the North Myrtle Beach Woman's Club, where she serves as fundraising chair, has served on the Mcleod Health Foundation Board, Mcleod Fundraising, the Horry-Georgetown Technical College Medical Assistant Advisory Board, and the North Myrtle Beach (NMB) Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. In 2016 she was named President of the NMB Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and was awarded the Chamber’s highest award - the Outstanding Leadership Award, in 2021.

McCumbee is from Green Sea Floyds, SC and attended Spartanburg Methodist College. She is currently serving as the General Federation Women's Clubs of South Carolina (GFWC-SC) Coastal District President for 2024-2026 and is continuing to serve on the North Myrtle Beach Woman's Club and Chair of Purses with Purpose. She has one daughter and four stepdaughters, five grandchildren, and a fiancé, Greg Baker, retired FBI.

The South Carolina Education Oversight Committee (EOC) is an independent, non-partisan group consisting of 18 educators, businesspeople, and elected officials appointed by the Governor and General Assembly. The EOC is charged with encouraging continuous improvement in SC public schools, approving academic content standards and assessments, overseeing the implementation of the state’s educational accountability system, and documenting improvements in education.
